Above normal needle drop #867299

Asked May 06, 2024, 5:20 PM EDT

Some conifers, especially Douglas Fir, on our property located on South Bank Chetco River Rd appear to be experiencing an above normal needle drop for this time of the year. I'm wondering if this is happening in other areas of the county or if there's anything going on that we haven't heard about that may be causing this issue?

Expert Response

Hi there,
Thank you for sending us this observation of above normal needle drop. We have recently received similar reports in southern Oregon. There several native pathogens that can affect conifers and cause needle cast symptoms. The only way to positively identify the pathogens is through lab testing. I will send you a follow-up email to schedule a site visit to obtain samples.
