Hello,
We are trying to contain chokecherries so that they don't sucker all over the place. We are wanting to put in root barrier to prevent this, but don't know how deep of barrier we need to get. Do only the superficial roots sucker, or will deeper ones do that as well? Will 18in root barrier be sufficient, or do we need to go deeper?

It is pretty difficult to contain chokecherry suckers. You could try a 24" deep root barrier, but there is still the potential for suckers to escape, depending on your soil. You can always cut back any that do escape, either by mowing or clipping.
