When to plant perennials in 2024 #867060

Asked May 04, 2024, 9:13 PM EDT

Hi, I started perennials from seed and want to transplant them out in my garden in Widefield. Looking at the extended forecast the weather does not seem to be the best even after Mother's Day to put them in the ground. When would be the best time to get them transplanted outside? It's a whole variety of perennials. Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

Expert Response

Perennials can take a bit of frost once they are hardened off, and I don't see lows in the low thirties on the long range forecast.
Just make sure to get your plants hardened off before you plant-

Place them outdoors where they will receive direct sunlight but out of the wind for a few hours each day for a week. Gradually lengthen the amount of time outside each day.  Have them spend at least one night outside before planting them.

Thank you so much for your reply. I kind of thought they would be okay. I will get to work hardening them off!

Take care,
