Hinoki Cypress foliage browning with white patches #867009
Asked May 04, 2024, 12:30 PM EDT
I have three Hinoki Cypress (I believe that is the species), located along a walk around the back of my house. The back of the house is facing southwest, but there is a forest with tall trees about 20 ft to the southwest of the Cypress trees. The cypress get no direct sunlight in the morning (blocked by the house), two hours of direct sunlight between 11 am and 1, and then indirect sunlight filtered through the trees in the forest the rest of the afternoon.
I have attached photos of the cypress trees.

Expert Response
Hello Karl,
May I ask how long these plants have been in their present location? Also, how often do they get watered?
At first glance, and from the description of the location , I believe these plants are not getting enough sun and possibly need more moisture also
Hinoki Cypress require full sun and lots of moisture to prevent them from drying out . They also like a little more acidic soil.
I am including a few attachments for you to review . I look forward to hearing back from you in reference to my few questions.
