How to care for maple tree with separating bark? #866972

Asked May 03, 2024, 10:38 PM EDT

I have a maple tree in my front yard which receives morning sun from the southeast. The tree bark started separating from the tree about 2 years ago. I have searched for information regarding what this could be. It seems like it might be the result of a frost crack but am not certain. I have attached a picture. Can you tell me what this could be, and steps I could take to save this tree? Thank you. Kristen Ebert Minnetrista, MN<personal data hidden> <personal data hidden>

Expert Response

Based on the damage and size of your tree I would recommend contacting a local tree care company and requesting an arborist consultation. The arborist can evaluate the tree and give recommendation for next steps.
