Invasive bamboo #866966

Asked May 03, 2024, 8:40 PM EDT

I recently bought a property that has a large mature stand of the aggressive invasive bamboo. I was wondering if there were programs to assist landowners in removing the plants. The scope of the infestation (.15 acre) is such that it is going to need an excavator to remove the rhizomes. I also dont know if there would be any rules about the disposal of the rhizomes.

Here is a list of grants supplied by the state of Delaware. Maybe the Environmental Quality Incentives Program would provide help.

It would be best to contact the Department of Agriculture and ask them. Bamboo will respond to cutting back and repeated treatment with glyphosate. It will take several years, but that is less radical and disruptive to the environment than digging out the rhizomes.
