Irish Moss - good or bad? #866907

I have a gravel area in my yard where Irish Moss has started to grow (on its own). What are the environmental pros and cons of allowing it to grow and take over that area? Is Irish Moss a nuisance weed or noxious weed? I know it's not native. Trying to figure out whether to let it grow or remove it.

Thank you for your questions. Irish moss is actually a seaweed, not a true moss. Are you sure this is what you have? If so, this Extension article has ideas for its use, since it is not invasive, thrives in dry, sunny areas, and is prized for its landscaping benefits: https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/irish-and-scotch-moss-sagina-subulata-and-arenaria-verna/
In case you're interested, this article is about the "true moss" that is common in the PNW: https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/2073/2014/03/093011.pdf
good luck!
