Hi, we live in Bloomington, MN. Is there a free service that can offer advice on which native plants/flowers would thrive in my yard? Is soil testing available? There's a large area in the front yard where a tree used to grow. Do I have to remove all the roots or can I simply plant over the roots? Please see attached photo. Thank you in advance!
Hennepin County Minnesota
Expert Response
It's best to remove most roots before planting a new tree in the area where a tree has been removed. Take out ground up wood chips and replace with soil. It's best to plant four or five feet away from that site.
You can obtain a soil test by contacting the University of Minnesota - see https://soiltest.cfans.umn.edu/
