Ash tree nutrition? #866890

Asked May 03, 2024, 12:19 PM EDT

Hello, We have a very old ash tree. I called an arborist for a consultation on inoculation (we have done this for the past 10 years or so) and pruning, as the tree is posing some risk to our home and a neighbor's. The company also recommended providing several biokelp supplements (detailed in the attachment). Is this a recommended treatment, in general? The representative said that it would strengthen the roots and limit the growth. It sounds good, but I don't know how to evaluate that. Please advise; thank you so much, Donna

I could find no information noted in scientific resources that indicate special fertilization of ash trees. The Morton Arboretum suggests tree fertilization is only needed if it has been determined, through soil testing or tree symptoms that fertilizing is necessary. https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/tree-plant-care/plant-care resources/fertilizing/#:~:text=A%20fertilization%20program%20is%20used,foliage%20tests%20indicate%20a%20deficiency.

Below are two resources with information regarding care and treatment of ash trees.
