What ground cover varieties are good to plant in Minnesota around a pond that is shaded? Are any varieties available in seed form?

Buying small plants would be more economical in the long run that sowing seeds. Seeds of the plants you want will be competing with weed seeds and it will take a very long time to get established plants.
