It’s kind of hard to diagnose from a picture, from your description I would say that they are not related, the broken branch is weather related and the few yellow leaves could be from shock from planting. I think I would call an arborist out to look at the tree, they are tree specialists and they could look at the tree and give you a better diagnosis than I can by looking at a picture.
