Pruning a young Matador Maple #866780

Asked May 02, 2024, 1:36 PM EDT

I have a Matador Maple which is about 4-5 years old. It's growing beautifully and getting tall! When can I trim the lower branches off? Thank you! Kelly McKernan

Good Morning Kelly,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

You could have started pruning early on. If you scroll through the information, there are videos about how to prune.

You can still prune your maple this spring. I would do it before it is all leafed out.

Good Luck!
