Black walnuts can grow in zones 4-9. We are zones 3 or 4 here in Gilpin. I think you could manage to grow the tree, but our cold temperatures would probably keep it from producing nuts. In addition, the tree would need an amended growing medium, lots of compost and soil high in organic matter. It would also need regular watering.
