Non invasive climbing plant #866673

Asked May 01, 2024, 5:08 PM EDT

Hello Master Gardener, I live in the Cleveland area. I have a trellis that I want to plant a climbing plant on. Is the Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle a good choice? The area is in full afternoon sun. Is the Peaches and Cream honeysuckle invasive? Donna

Hello and thanks for contacting Ask Extension
I have this variety and absolutely love it. It is just starting to bloom and will continue into summer months.  No it is not an invasive variety. It can get very tall 20 feet, so make sure you have a sturdy trellis.

This woody vine will require occasional maintenance and upkeep. It is best to prune in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. Under ideal conditions it can be expected to live 20+ years.  This woody vine does best in full sun to partial shade.

Try to keep it evenly moist with a heavy mulch. This is a  selection of a native North American species.

I have found a site with information on the invasive varieties that might interest you.

Thank you for contacting us and good luck!
