Boxwoods and cicadas #866642

We have Boxwood bushes that are 15-20 years old, will cicadas hurt a boxwood bush?

Expert Response

Depending on the size of the branches of your boxwood, cicadas may attempt to lay eggs in them. They will lay eggs in branches the size of a pencil or a little larger (up to a 1/2" in diameter). Some egg-laying is fine; the main concern is if the trunks and main stems are small enough for eggs to be laid in. If you are concerned, you can cover your plants with netting (holes should be 1/4" in size).
