Recent and Sturdy Dandelion Family Weed #866275

Asked April 29, 2024, 11:33 AM EDT

A few years ago, a "new" weed appeared in the lawn.  Since then, it has proliferated (especially in the sandy/sunny sections of the lawn).  It is resistant to weed killers.  Yesterday I manually removed several dozen of them.  They have long-stemmed yellow flower when allowed to flower.  Also multiple roots with one that is very long (5"-8+").  I would appreciate if if someone could identify it and advise whether manual  removal is the only way to get rid of it.

Is there a way you can send a larger photo?  I am not able to enlarge it to identify the leaves.

Took a while.  Please let me know if these are better.  Thank you!

Thank you for the new photos.  This appears to be Cat's ear, Hypochaeris radicata.

The best way is to remove it by pulling it up.   You could treat it with a broad leaf control herbicide that is safe for lawns but the hairs on the leaves might make it less effective.

I missed seeing this information when it arrived in my mailbox.  Thank you for providing it.  Back to work getting these guys out!!  If they didn't spread as easily as they do, their flowers are pretty and would make keeping them okay.
