Question about invasive species in New Paltz #866262

Asked April 29, 2024, 10:12 AM EDT

Hello! We moved into a new house last fall and I am trying to understand how we can best take care of the woods around our property. I am including some pictures of what I think are invasive species (I think multiflora rose, asiatic bittersweet, wineberry, and autumn olive). They have completely taken over much of the south side of our property. We also have some protected wetlands that are full of them. I am wondering what we can do to make this a healthier area for birds and other wildlife.

Expert Response

What a great idea to understand all of the various species of bushes and trees on your property. We highly suggest scheduling a woods walk, which is a free service whereby a master gardener will come to your property, for free, to take a walk with you to learn about your forest. They will talk to you about your priority for your woodlands, such as attracting wildlife and learning how to keep your woods healthy. Contact Pamela Price at<personal data hidden>, ext 118 or email her at <personal data hidden>. Good luck with your new home!

Hi, thank you for your reply. I tried to reach her and the email bounced back. I tried the phone number and it was for someone named Shane. Is there someone else who could do a woods walk?

Thank you.
Best regards,
Stacie
