worms in droppings of week old chicks #866247

Asked April 29, 2024, 9:14 AM EDT

6 day old chicks acting normally but found small tubular droppings amid a small puddle of mucus/fluid. No other abnormalities noted. They were purchased from a feed store where I have gotten them many times before.

I don't believe worms could develop this quickly in baby chicks.  I think it will take at least a few weeks for them to develop to a size that you would be able to see.

My guess is that the things you saw may have been sloughed tissue from the gut lining, or possibly some undigested matter from the feed.

I would suggest you continue to monitor the chicks for other signs, but I don't think this is a sign of worms.
