Did an animal eat our small maple tree?

Our small maple tree, perhaps 5-6 years old and about 3 feet tall, is broken. The branches have been broken off the small trunk, and the bark appears to have been chewed off the trunk. Is it possible that an animal could have done this?

Small black bug

I have been finding these bugs crawling off my dog. They don’t seem to be imbedded in her. I have found at least 50 in just a few hours. What are these things. They can be squished easily. They crawl very slow.

Lawn dead with thin black flakes of fungus?

Hello, following a roundup 365 weed killer application, I have a large area of dead grass near the application area. I have contacted the makers of roundup and they basically said they are not sure what's going on and to have the soil tested, citing possible fungus. After each rain, an area in my grass dies. This has continued to happen for months following the application in March. However, it is not just dead, there are odd, hard pieces of black material that appear after the ground dried up from the rain. These are very thin flakes and break easily. If you remove all the flakes, they come back after the ground gets wet and dries again. Nothing will grow in the area. I have attached some pictures and was wondering if you guys have heard of this before? Should I get a soil test? If so, i'm sure it would need more than a basic test, so what laboratory should i sent it to? Thanks for your help!!
