DO YOU HAVE A LIFETIME TO WASTE ON SUCKERS AND STUMPS?

i DONT WANT TO JOIN THESE THINGS BECAUSE I CAN'T ACCEPT ANY MORE EMAIL. BUT I WILL TELL YOU MY EXPERIENCE WITH CREPE MYRTLES. THEY ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET RID OF. I HAD TWO IN MY FRONT YARD, AND HAD THEM CUT DOWN. THEN, I HIRED A STUMP GRINDER. BIG MISTAKE. I SHOULD HAVE PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER, I.E., DURING THE YEARS WHEN I RE-DID THE BEDS WITH NEW PLANTS, EVERY TIME I CUT INTO A CREPE MYRTLE ROOT, I GOT A NEW PLANT/TREE. AS IT HAPPENED, THE STUMP GRINDER COULD NOT GET THE ENTIRE ROOT BALL BECAUSE HE GROUND THROUGH MY MAIL WATER LINE. NOW I HAVE DOZENS OF PLANTS COMING UP FROM WHERE THE STUMP WAS GROUND, PLUS THEY HAVE NOW SPREAD THROUGHOUT MY FRONT YARD.

A FEW YEARS AGO, I FOUND ON UTUBE A VIDEO BY THE UTAH EXTENSION SERVICE RECOMMENDING HOW TO KILL A STUMP AND PREVENT ANY SUCKORS FROM REGROWING ON THE STUMP. THE MAN DID NOT GIVE OR SHOW HIS FORMULA, BUT I WATCHED UNTIL I FELT I HAD IT. I THINK I DID.

BACKING UP THE STORY A FEW YEARS.... I HAD HAD TWO LIGUSTRUM TREES, MATURE, THAT I CUT DOWN, BUT KEPT GETTING BEAUCOUP SUCKERS EVERY YEAR. AFTER SEEING UTAH'S VIDEO, I WENT BACK TO THE STUMPS (IT HAD ALREADY BEEN A FEW YERS) AND CUT THEM DOWN TWO MORE INCHES. I THEN FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS, COATING THE CADMIUM LAYER OF THE TRUNK AND ALSO COATING EVERY CUT SUCKOR. HAVE NOT SEEN HIDE NOR HAIR OF A SUCKOR SINCE.

HERE IS THE FORMULA: 4 PARTS GLYSOPHATE CONCENTRATE, 1 PART SURFACTANT, AND TWO PARTS AMMONIUM SULFATE. I HAD TO ORDER THE AMMONIUM SULFATE IN LIQUID FORM IN GREAT QUANTITIES FROM TEXAS, BUT I WAS DETERMINED TO KILL THOSE SUCKORS (PUN INTENTED). IFI YOU KNOW A FARMER, THEY USE THIS STUFF AND WOULD PROBABLY SELL YOU A PINT FOR VERY LITTLE.

NOW TO MY CREPE MYRTLE STRATEGY.... I HAVE MADE EVERY MISTAKE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE, BUT TODAY I WENT TO WAR. I USE A PAINTER'S CONTAINER USES TO BRUSH PAINT ON TRIM, ETC., LIKE A SMALL BUCKET WITH A HANDLE. YOU CAN BUY THE LINERS, WHICH I USE. ONCE I CUT A CREPE MYRTLE OUTGROWTH, I BRUSH ON THE UTAH FORMULA, AND PLACE A SMALL JEWELRY BAG (VERY SMALL PLASTIC ZIPLOC BAGS FROM MICHAELS, ETC., 100 FOR $5 OR SO) AND COVER THE OUTGROWTH TO PREVENT ANIMALS FROM LICKING THE SUBSTANCE, AND PREVENT RAIN FROM WASHING IT OFF. THE BAG ON THE OUTGROWTH ALSO MARKS WHERE I HAVE TREATED, SO I CAN DO A VISUAL CHECK IN A FEW WEEKS. I USE A RUBBER BAND TO MAKE SURE IT STAYS IN PLACE. I'M SURE I WILL HAVE TO MAKE SEVERAL PASSES BECAUSE THESE THINGS ARE ALL OVER MY YARD, AND THE GUY WHO CUTS THE LAWN MOWS THE TOP GROWTH WHILE THE ROOTS KEEP GROWING AND BUILDING STRENGTH. FOR THESE GROWTHS, I CUT ALL THE TENDER STUFF AND COAT WITH THE FORMULA.

WISH ME LUCK. I'LL MAKE AN EFFORT TO UPDATE THIS.

Leasing/Renting Farm Land

We own 20 acres of land in Rayville,La. We have been approached by a farmer who is interested in leasing/renting the land. What would be a reasonable price per acre? What factors would impact the cost per acre?

Fig tree leaves dying

I have a mature fig tree that each year starts to produce fruit, then the leaves dry up and the fruit never matures. I have tried fertilizer, watering, not watering, this has been going on for three years since we moved here. I am located in southern Louisiana.

Thanks

Sweet bay magnolia virginiana bark problems

The bark at the base of the trunk is cracking and peeling and seems to be developing small cavities. I have protected it from weedwacker impact with brick edging surrounding the base. I can see some ants near the base but not sure if they can cause this damage. The new growth at the top of the tree is healthy but some smaller older bottom branches dried up and fell off. Some older leaves have white scale. The smaller stem growing next to the main trunk is also showing signs of cracking. What is the problem and what can I do to prevent further damage to the tree? Should I be worried?
