My Liberty apple tree

I have a self pollinating Liberty apple tree. It has beared fruit for the last four years. It is once again loaded with apples. In the last week I have noticed some apples starting to fall off the tree. Is this normal? How do I know when the apples are, ripe to pick? Thank you for giving information about my tree

Flags

Good morning! I am on the committee for Odebolt Creek Days celebration. I was wondering how we can get a nice Iowa State flag and and Iowa flag to hang in our Heritage Square down town? We want to do a fund-raiser and hang the flag in the Heritage Square downtown that raises the most money by a certain date. If you have any suggestions, please email me at annhoefling1@gmail.com Thanks! Ann Hoefling

aronia

can we get some information on the aronia bushes? Is there a market here in Iowa, and how much can you make with them as a grower? How many do you need to plant and do they produce berries the 1st year that can be harvested? We r looking into adding a new income to our farm.

Lawn Weed and Feed

Is now a good time to apply Weed and Feed Fertilizer? I normally would apply it in the early summer, however this year ,and last, have been abnormal years. It was very dry last fall and I did apply a late application of fertilizer in early November. I did not fertilize this spring as it was very dry in April and May. June was a monsoon, nearly 13 inches of rain. July very dry, about 1.5 inches of rain. The grass last fall suffered a lot and a lot did not come back. I broadcast seed last fall late in November hoping it would lay there and germinate this spring. It did pretty well considering the weather. Now it is suffering from a lot of weed pressure. Not dandelions but all kinds of weeds I don't know what are. We just had about 3.00 inches of rain this week. I feel I should do something about the weeds. Weed and Feed or spray with a Weed-Be Gone product and fertilize in late September? There is a good stand of grass in most places. I would appreciate your opinion. Darrel Smith

What to do if Chicken Lymphoid Leukosis was suspected in my flock?

I have some backyard hens since 2010. This year I had one hen dead with weight loss. And now in the same group(was four), there are two of them have swollen abdomen and diarrhea from maybe middle of May. I gave them antibiotic for 10 days, it didn't help the swollen. After that, I also change their feed to all flock type, seems not helping either. I'm scared to do the fluid drainage for them, but I guess I have to. One of them has water sound while she's breathing the day before yesterday. I have 4 different coops in our old garage, but they were free range together since 2013. I am very concerned the rest of my flock. Should I separate the other coops hens when they are free ranging? And the one with the other two sick hens I couldn't separate them, because they are so bided together since they were chicks, also no more extra spaces. There are 2 main questions: What to do for the not sick ones and what to do for the ill ones? And will the virus transmit to the human and cats? Will rain help to wash off the virus? Also if I wear gloves and wash my hands often will help to prevent the transmission of virus? I couldn't sleep well and have normal life for this. Please help. I will be very appreciate it.
