planting strawberries and blueberries

I would like to plan perennial strawberries on the northwest (more north than west) side of our house, about 3 ft from the house itself. It gets no sun in the morning, but gets a good amount in the afternoon. Would that work? Similarly, I would like to plan perennial blueberries on the southeast (more south than east) side of our house, right against the house. So this location gets sun in the morning, but not in the late afternoon. Would that work? Thanks

Lawn fertilization. Mulch usage.

I fertilized my lawn early in the spring. When is the best time for fall application? Also I generate lots of mulch composed of mostly grass clippings, leaves, and shredded garden refuse. I have been spreading this residue on the poorer soil areas of my lawn before the grass even starts growing. Will this cause problems in the long term? I have a huge rural lawn area, but lots of mulch - 60-70 bushels. Am I wasting my time generating the mulch. I keep the mulch winrowed and under tarps . I rotate and soak it with water every 3 weeks.

pruning spirea

My spirea bushes are overgrown. I want to cut them back to about 4 inches from the ground to start over. Is it best to do it now after they stop blooming or wait until early spring (March)?

Are Chestnut Trees safe to plant in cattle pasture?

I was given 5 free chestnut trees for Earth Day. They were a hybrid of American with a little Chinese (to protect against blight). My brother doesn't want to plant the trees in the pasture because he believes the chestnuts may be like acorns and make the cattle sick. I really want the chestnut trees because I think they are great for wildlife and will provide shade. Are the tree safe to plant around Herefords? Are there maintenance recommendations, such as picking up the chestnuts that fall on snow?
