How do I know if my patch needs to be replanted? This year, almost all of the first spears are very thin - is that a sign?

I had a 3 and 1/2 inch Siena Glen maple tree planted last fall . Its about 12 to 15 foot tall. It was dug up and delivered by the Nursery around the middle of September. I dug the hole per the Nursery's instructions while he watched. He set the tree in the hole for me and I covered it up with dirt. I added mulch 3 feet out from the trunk and watered per instructions from the Nursery. The leaves started wilting after about a week in a half in the ground and was the first tree to drop its leaves. the 3 lower branches on the bottom of the tree were the last to drop its leaves. Witch are now the only leafed branches Even though all the branches had buds on them. They were the only ones to open up. The rest dried up. I checked some of the branches where there are dried up buds. Although the tips of the braches are dead the rest of the same branch seems flexible and green when scraping a little bark off. Should I try pruning the dead portion of the braches off or just leave them. Can you shine any light on what I should expect or do? Just a note I had a Red oak planted in the front yard that's doing just fine. It was planted the same day. The oak was dug up put in with a tree digger machine. I think the mapel was dug up by hand and delivered on a trailer. Thanks Mr. Rick Morgan.

I am trying to grow calla lilies for my son's wedding. It will be on Sept.6. Right now my lilies are about 3 to 4 and a half inches tall. Do you think they will be blooming at the right time???
