Can chickens catch "The Common Cold"?

I have read for years on different chicken diseases. For instance, MG. In the past, I had chickens that were occasionally sneezing, some breathing that sounded congested, a little swelling around their eyes. No exudates, no deaths, just a couple weeks of being less than healthy. The last time this happened it was a batch I had raised here on the farm, so of course they were encountering something present locally, either from the older chickens or wild birds. The state vet said if I tested for MG it wouldn't say much since most backyard flocks probably have it. So would MG ever be so mild as to present as a simple cold? Are there any other respiratory diseases that aren't very serious that we would encounter? Do chickens catch plain old viral colds?

Lots of dried grape vines

We have what looks like lots of vines that seem to be dead. Can I prune them right now or do I have to wait until March next year. Japanese beetles perforated the leaves, but we still had some very small grapes. Seems like if I pruned it this would help develop larger grapes?

Oak in Distress

I have a very large white oak tree that I noticed that Virginia Creeper kept trying to climb. After taking the vine down twice, I noticed that the bark at the base is peeling and also splitting upward. Further observations revealed ants coming out of a nearly perfectly round "bore" hole at the bottom of the tree. I stuck a wire into the hole and it went in about 8 inches straight in. On the other side, I was able to put the wire in about 12 inches upward. When I pulled the wire out, there was a blackish "mud" on the wire. I also noticed that there is a fungus at the base and the cracking bark going upward is very dark. I am concerned that this tree is going to fall, which would put it into my roof. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

What apple variety is this?

I am trying to figure out what variety of apple this is. I got it from the home of a friend in Port Townsend WA and they do not know the type. It is one of the sweetest apples that I have ever eaten with a unique flavor. Texture is firm and juicy with a pinkish hue of the flesh relatively close to the skin.

cherry leaf spot

My name is Baker Spring and am a resident of Linden, VA. I have sour cherry trees that are suffering from what appears to me to be cherry leaf spot. I have sprayed the trees with Daconil, starting in the early spring. This has been only partially successful. Is there something else I should be doing? You can reach me at the e-mail provided below. Thank you in advance for any advice that you can provide. -- Baker
