Honeydew Secretion

We have a tree in our back yard (not sure what type) that has been in place for a number of years. The problem is a honeydew secretion caused by aphids (so I have been told). It is a sticky substance (almost like syrup) that gets on everything under the tree and around the immediate area. It is really a nuisance. I've been told that there are other trees in our area with the same problem.

Is there some reason that this shows up all of a sudden, and what if anything can be done to take care of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank You

Cucumber problem

My cucumbers once again are becoming diseased. This has happened the last three years. Enclosed is a picture of one of my cucumber leaves. This will affect all leaves and then eventually kill the plant. What is going on?

Does a concrete & steel building require termite treatment?

We're building a new facility using brick and block walls with steel joist framing. There is no basement and there is no wood in contact with the soils at any location. Do we still need to treat the soils on the site for subterranean termites? My local pest control contractor says we should, but maybe he is just trying to sell me his services. (Adding the following info) The only wood in the building, really, is a wood athletic floor. We are building adjacent to a public middle school that apparently has had some termite activity in the past. My source tells me it was at the school's wooden performance stage?
