control of mexican sandbur around the home and yard

A homeowner wants to know if there are effective ways to control mexican sandbur in their yard and lawn areas. They live in South central SD in Todd County within the town of Mission. We know of physically removing the plants but wonder if there are less labor intensive solutions.....

Can Squirrels Identify Walnut Seeds That Are Viability?

My grandson and I have used one of your articles to help us properly gather, sort, and store, viable walnut seeds so that we might plant them and grow walnut trees here on the Rosebud Lakota Reservation. (Not many walnut trees grow here, but we gathered walnuts from a tree that grows in our yard.) We have three questions for which we cannot find answers: 1) ) Do we know if, and how, squirrels are able to distinguish between walnut seeds that are viable ones and ones that are not viable? 2) Do squirrels eat walnut seeds that are not viable? 3) If squirrels eat non-viable walnut seeds, do we know if they prefer to eat viable walnut seeds rather than non-viable walnut seeds? Again, we cannot find answers to thee questions. Please help us. Thank you.
