brown leaves on red twig dogwood and glo girl spirea

Most of the leaves on my red twig dogwood have turned brown. I've had this problem with another one 2 years ago in the fall and had to remove it because it didn't do well the following spring. Also, noticing brown leaves on several of my glo girl spirea shrubs. These shrubs are not near each other. I don't see any insects on the leaves. Also, my rhubarb this year had very small diameter stems. It was well watered and fertilized but nothing increased the size of the stems.

Garden soil

I love gardening! I have had a vegetable garden (about 1250 SF) in the same location for the last 20 years always rotating crops and have had very good yield. But, over the past 3 yrs, my tomato plants have suffered from blight getting worse every year and this year many tomatoes were wasted from blossom end rot. How can I prevent blight from killing my plants? Is there something I should add to my soil?

I have small holes in yard---about the size of a 50 cents piece. Just wondering if this could be a skunk--the neighbor had a skunk but his yard turned brown over night. I have no brown spots---just a hole. Close to the garden but nothing has happened in the garden. Thanks

Grass seed for shady area

Our lawn is 20 yrs. old and due to trees, parts of our lawn are heavily shaded and grass has become thin and sparse. I've considered dethatching and then core aeration in the spring followed by overseeding. I've heard that's good to do following aeration because seed will fall into the holes where plugs of grass have been removed. Is there a variety of grass seed that's recommended for shady areas?

Grubs in Lawn

The past few summers it seems that in August or September I notice areas in the lawn that may show signs of grub damage. I have tried to dig up brown patches but have not actually found grubs. We then put down Menard's Grub Control granules, and the areas seem to improve. Are grubs more of a problem with certain weather conditions? This spring and summer we've had an abundance of rain, but we've had grubs also in a drought. Would it be best to just apply the Grub Control yearly? When is the best month to apply it to stop the grubs before they start killing areas of grass?
