I want to re-establish an alfalfa/orchard grass hay crop on my land in sunbury township. I have had soil tested and will be applying lime soon. My question is, when is the best time to plant "hay" seed and what should I do about weed control for alfalfa (what should I spray it with and when?). No lime or fertilizer has been applied for several years. Should I plow fields under? should I lime before or after I plow?

I teach at River High School. We will be planting dwarf burning bushes and scarlet red maple trees this spring (red & grey school colors). We plan on amending the soil with compost & composted manure. Is there any suggested soil amendments to ensure bright red fall colors?

Temp Snake Marking?

I just bought a old farm that has multiple buildings and barns I'm sure there is a large population of snakes around each building, I welcome them and want them to stay. However I would like to make sure when I come across them they are not poisonous and place a small paint marking on them so my family will not freak out every time they see one. I realize as soon as they shed it will come off but was hoping it will give me time to figure out what species I have living there and keep the snakes from becoming a victim. What paint would you recommend I want something safe for the snake? I was thinking about just a small strip on head. Is there a better way? Thank You so much for your advice
