I was surprised that OSU extension is not listed as a partner in the Propolis project. http://propolisprojects.org/partners/ Please consider collaborating with them. They are implementing President Obama's directive about honey bees, at the Huffman Prairie on WPAFB land. When they eventually breed enough bees that have behavior which self-cleans themselves from the mites, then OSU Ext. can have a cadre of trained beekeepers ready to grow the new bees. Thank you for listening, and checking in on this, if you don't know about it.

I am writing an article about Conrad Richter's Ohio trilogy. After the settlers remove trees from the Ohio Valley to farm, here's what happened: If Worth was home, he’d bust his sides laughing at these settlers chopping down trees, burning them up, shovel-ploughing around the stumps and fighting the roots from spring to fall just to raise wheat and corn. All the wheat they got was sick wheat. The black ground was too rich. And the sick wheat made you vomit” (120). I am interested in whether this "black soil" is being caused by the charcoal from the burnt trees rather than from something like muck as described here: https://cfaes.osu.edu/stories/ohio%E2%80%99s-richest-soil-dwindling or something else. Also, I have a bit of information about "sick wheat" being known to farmers in the mid 19th century but if you have any additional information I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Hello, thanks in advance for your insight. I've anecdotally noticed an increased diagnosis of allergies and increased mention of allergens by doctors along side the adversity to prescribe antibiotics to prevent resistance. I've also noticed an increased in the number of visits to treat upper and lower respiratory issues. In the past, antibiotics were used as a first line of treatment. A patient would either have a bacterial sickness, which the antibiotics would help, or a virus, which the antibiotics would do nothing but the virus would go away during the time of the treatment of antibiotics. If neither worked, a patient would return and allergies would be considered. Now, the course of action is to do nothing or palliative care, then treat for allergies, then consider antibiotics. Has any research been performed on the change in the diagnoses of respiratory illnesses with the change in course of action to prevent antibiotic resistance? Has the impact of the increased strain on the healthcare system (increased number of visits) due to the change in course of action been researched? How about patient confidence in their diagnoses? I'm curious about how "right" we've been in diagnoses in the past versus now and how much has been a function of order of treatment and ultimately if the rise in allergies is real or a function of this order of treatment.

What inoculations/vaccinations do baby chicks receive or need to receive prior to purchase from the hatchery? Are free range chickens healthier compared to confined high production/caged birds? What diseases have been found in the backyard chicken environment? And what was the issue - sanitation? fed/water????? poor care????
