We are new chicken owners who received a cockerel in our first order of pullets. Since we are new to chickens our contacts as well as our experience are limited. I was hoping you would have some resources or suggestions to get this friendly 14 week old Ameraucana a new home.

Is a Christmas cactus a cactus? I read that it is a tropical cactus. I am told, however, that it is not considered one and should be shown as a succulent. Could you let me know how it is designated by scientists?

Our Buckeye Tree has a Japanese beetle infestation. How can we treat it to get rid of the beetles? They are eating the leaves - the top of the tree is brown because the leaves have been eaten.

Profusion in poultry hens

Golden Comet Pullet just started laying. Must of had a profusion or prolapse on Saturday. Discovered on Sunday and I removed hen from flock. Washed vent area, removing all fecal material and applied tea tree oil and Vaseline. Worked the Oviduct back into vent on Monday. Did not treat on Tuesday seeing area looked good. Placed pullet back with flock at dark p.m.. This a.m. found her resting in sun but had dead skin smell. Discovered open flesh 1/2 inch below vent area that had maggots (possibly cannibalism - but no prior indication of such nor bloody from freshly done)! Appears area has been there a few days and I totally missed it. The flesh is dead, smelly and only see rotten skin. Soaked whole area with disinfectant, placed hen inside garage, out of flies and more problems. What to do next? Drinking water has poultry antibiotic in it. She had appetite up till today. Almost looks like she had blow-out in this area, but her watery fecal material comes out her intended vent. Any suggestions? very hard to find vets who deal with poultry but waiting on reply from one.
