Horticulture help

I am a widower, and my late wife was in charge of planting at our home, in that she told me where to dig holes, and when to prune what! Two years now without that supervision, I have overgrown shrubs and other plants I need advice on. I am afraid if left to my own judgement, I I will ruin some plantings. Is there anyone on staff, or volunteer, that will look at my yard and advise me what to do? Glad to pay for service, or donate to garden club or the like, if appropriate! Thanks, Glenn Collins

What is this

It started as a tiny red bump that was xtremely itchy. Then started getting bigger, with blister looking swollen areas. Used alcohol, peroxide and calamine lotion. Then started using neoseporin. Itching stopped for awhile, but now has started back. Our house is full of black gnats, so is the yard. Was this a gnat bite or spider. Do I need to go to a doctor?

Right Tree Right Place

I want to remove two non-producing pecan trees from my one-half acre yard, and replace them with native trees that will shade my house, but not grow too big. I moved here from Pennsylvania five years ago, and I am not familiar with Carolina plants.

Mold treatment

Hi does this look like pathogenic mold, and for a pretty tall tree, could it be treated? It is showing up on the grass and plants below it. Upon looking closely, I do see little white bugs on the leaf.

Apple and pear fungus

I have enclosed a picture of two of my Granny Smith apples that have soft brown spots and peels with splotches on them. Can you tell me how best to prevent this next year. The infection affected my golden delicious apples and Bartlett pears also. My Keifer pears were not affected.
Thank you in advance.

Squash and cucumber seeds

I have stored squash and cucumber seeds from five years ago, The seeds do germinate but fruit production has been extremely low compared to past years. Could the seed be bad? I store them in the freezer until planting time, then put them back in the freezer. Thank you.....David

Pruning Fig Bush

I have a very large fig bush but never get any fruit. Someone told me to prune this bush back to head height in October. Someone else said this is incorrect. Could you please give me the correct information as I would love to have figs for fig preserves. Thank you
