phorid flies

These flies were found on the window cell, inside and out, of my tenants window.

What caused this? She is extremely neat and clean.

She does have a lot of plants....would this be an attraction to this fly?

Vegetable garden near a pressure treated wood retaining wall

I am building a vegetable garden that would be about 20 feet from a retaining wall made from pressure treated wood. The wall is at least 20 years old so the wood has creosote and is about 15 feet in height. My property slopes down from the wall. I was planning on planting directly in the ground without raised beds. I am mid project. Do you think my vegetables will be affected by polluted soil from the pressure treated wood? I am interested in whether the vegetables will have toxins and are 'organic'? Thank you.

Blue spruce purplish-brown needles in early spring

Greetings - I'm having an issue with some recently transplanted (last fall) blue spruce trees. The trees were planted last fall and appeared to weather the winter season in tact. Now that early spring and warmer weather has returned to the NY-metro area, I've just noticed some areas of purplish-brown needles appearing. I'm not sure if this is some winter damage (burn) ... or a more severe infection of some sort. I would greatly appreciate any feedback since these trees were a significant investment. I'm including some detailed pictures for reference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance !

Mealy Tomatoes

Because of my health I couldn’t plant in my garden. I miss growing and eating home grown tomatoes terribly. This year I bought 6 tomato plants in the container from Home Depot and have them on my deck. Great weather, and I have to water them every day. I’m starting to pick my cherry tomatoes and their mealy or gritty inside. I’m so disappointed. What do I do?

The deer are eating my New Guinea impatiens.

I live in Rockland county, New York. It's USDA Hardiness Zone 6B. I always plant New Guinea impatiens in pots in the springtime. This year, the deer are eating the flowers and buds so all I have is stalks. Can you recommend anything to keep them away? Thank you.

Tiny brown/black insect

I am finding these crawling on my windows and they don't seem to fly a lot but they do have wings and obviously flew to get there. Please help me identify. I am only finding a few here and there but I want to head off any kind of bigger problem. Thanks.
