Hydrangea

Had a perfectly blooming hydrangea last year. This year it is stunted and the leaves are deformed and hard to the touch. No blooms whatsoever. Any idea what might be going on here?

Insecticide Resistance II

This is a followup to a prior post regarding insect resistance to aerial spraying with Kontrol 30-30.

Our applicator now says that there are two (2) reasons there will not be resistance:

1 - our 10± square mile area is too small for resistance to occur, and
2 - his use of PBO (Piperonyl Butoxide) prevents insect resistance from occurring.
What is your position about his claim regarding PBO?

Are there any other consequences resulting from his using PBO?

(I see this article on possible PBO consequences.)

Thank you for your assistance.

Lilacs curling leaves

This question was asked June 22, 2014, 5:15 PM EDT I have several lilace bushes ~5 feet tall that have just finished blooming. New leaves are curling under and shriveling & after a while some turn yellow around the edges. Otherwise, they appear healthy. Not all new growth is affected & older leaves are normal. No evidence of insects, mold or other pests or diseases. Could this be caused by too much water? Lilacs face North but get some PM sun. Ground stays moist due to shade & sprinkler activity. Please advise. Thanks. Kathe Paine The thread ended with a sample being brought in. One of my lilac plants of 5 is showing the same problem. Roots seem healthy. What was the issue and how was it solved

Insecticide Resistance

Sirs: I am a physicist, assisting my Adirondack community. We are negotiating with an aerial sprayer for an annual contract of $15000±. He has been doing this for us for quite a few years now. Our current agreement is for “Adult Insect Control .3oz Kontrol 30-30, .36 oz per acre and Mineral Oil”. Two questions have come up: 1) how frequently should he change the chemical composition (e.g. every 3 years) to minimize insecticide resistance. 2) he is spraying an area of 20± square miles. Is that enough area to cause some insect resistance to occur? Thank you for your assistance.

Khaki duck eggs

I have 3 female and 1 male khaki ducks that are 5 months old. Yesterday I found an egg in their pen and I haven't found any today. Is it normal not to have an egg today?
