Mystery Plant

Just wondering what this plant is and if the berries are edible? Never seen this before and curious if it is native or invasive?

Insect damage on Plums

I have just picked my plums and discovered that something is eating them from the inside out. There is usually a divot or some spots on the outside of the plum. Then when I cut into it there are red tunnels leading out from the stone, there is usually red around the stone, and sometimes a larger darker red spot. Almost every one of the fruit I picked has this! I was unable to identify any grubs or insects themselves. I and didn't even think to take pictures! Can you point me in the right direction for identification and control?

Trying to identify a digging rodent

I'm getting huge mounds around my machine shed that appear to be a gopher mound but they are huge! The mounds are 4-5 foot and look like no gopher mound I have ever seen but there is no hole the mound is sealed but I cannot see the usual ring when a gopher seals the final entrance to the burrow. I have trapped gophers all my life and cannot find the tunnel and have never seen a gopher mound as large as these are. Any help would be greatly appreciated, the picture I have loaded of a mound was just dug 8/13/17 and it is roughly 4' x 3' the other mound is recent also but a little smaller but still larger than any gopher mound I have ever seen .

I am interested in growing pear trees. I notice from an article on your website that Ure is the only pear variety approved for zone 3b. That article was from 2007 and I'm wondering if any of the newer Siberian varieties had yet been tested. If so they would provide a good companion for Ure. I believe one of these Siberian varieties is names Krazulya. The only nursery I can find that offers varieties for northern climates was from Canada and they don't ship to the U.S. Are there any nurseries that you can recommend? I've attached an article from the Alaska Fruit Growers Association that mentions the Russian varieties.

I am interested in possibly planting hedgerows in north-western Minnesota, Marshall County, to 'fence' a few garden plots. Even though I'm reading up, it's clear there is a lot to learn about hedges! Some of my top-of-mind questions are: 1. What are some viable plants for our mostly-boggy environments? 2. I'd like to maximize the anti-deer effects. Am I right in assuming this means I need to look at thorny plants which attain a height of 6' or higher? 3. Hedgerows can be important for wildlife; how can I be sure to have a good mix of plants for biodiversity as well as supporting the (hopefully not garden-marauding) critters?
