I live right on the canadian border in minnesota and i am wondering what time of the year would be the best month to prune my apple trees. I just planted them last spring and they were doing very well last summer. The kind of apple trees are Honey Crisp and Sweet Sixteen. The trees are about 7 or 8ft tall and were pruned when i bought them and planted them.

What is the best spray for fire blight?

I was wondering what the best spray for fire blight would be. I am planting 'Honeycrisp' and 'Sweet Sixteen' apple trees. I was thinking of Liquid Copper. Will the trees tolerate it, and if so, what brand would be the best for these varieties of trees? Is there anything else you would recommend to an amateur for this project?

apple trees (Honeycrisp & Sweet Sixteen)

Are these two apple trees tolerant to the spraying of copper for the prevention of fire blight? And if so is it recommended to spray copper for prevention of fire blight. If so how often and when should a person spray. I live in a area where fire blight is very common.

Orange Substance on Lilac Stems

One of my lilac plants has developed a lot of orange scale or fungus or something all over the stems. I can't find any information about what it could be and I'm trying to find out if it will hurt the lilac and/or if I should try to get rid of it somehow.

I planted it several years ago, but--as you can see by the first image--it hasn't made much progress. It does put on a few blooms every spring, though. The second image shows the "blemishes". On my computer the image doesn't look quite as orange as it does in person.
