About 4 years ago we purchased some high bush cranberry from our local soil and water department. The plants always had funky branches with some of the lower ones bending down with some stems twisting and turning in odd shapes. This year the leaves become blotchy and I had many new shoots that went straight up(higher than the main part of the bush) with huge leaves. I hate these bushes and I'm wondering if I have some sort of hybrid type of cranberry bush or do they just have a disease and the plant will come out of it next year.

My service berry(service berry bush) is 3 years old, very small...planted on the east side of my house- gets a.m. Light, shady in afternoons. It did well 1st year. Then was a bit spindly, but it's in clay soil. Each spring now, it starts well, blooms, but then the leaves get really droopy...like it's dying. It did this last year too. Then I gave it more water and some miracle grow...didn't make it any better. But it didn't die! Now it's doing it again....what is wrong with it? I'd like berries on it like it had when it was planted. It doesn't have to grow huge, just be healthier looking. Should I fertilize it? We haven't had that much rain this spring until yesterday...just a harsh winter. It didn't have much winter kill. Is it too much shade?

Hi, for the past few weeks I have noticed that some of the branches on my shrubs are turning brown and crispy. One day it looks fine, the next day the leaves are brown. It only gets brown on one branch at a time. Most of the major damage has been on my salix Nishiki, and a couple of times I have found them on my Josee lilac. Both shrubs are in my enclosed back yard. I have another Nishiki on the side of my house with a brown branch. I am thinking that it is probably spidermites or something. I don't see any bugs on the branches though. There have been a tremendous amount of spider webs in my garden this year. I used spectracide immunix 3 - 1 several times, but it hasn't stopped them or slowed it down. I'm not sure how to handle this. What action should I take? I have lost all the branches on one side of my nishiki. I will try to attach pictures. Thanks Much Shelly

help! spring of 2013 I cut my very old, overgrown lilacs down to give them a fresh start--this has always given it fresh new growth..afterwards they grew, but were hit as usual with powdery mildew in late summer. I was expecting them to thrive this spring, but after that horrible winter, they have never really done much...but TERRIBLE looking leaves-sick brownish color, leathery, crispy edges on some leaves...signs I thought were the usual mildew issue. Is there anything I can do to help them for next year? I thinned them out, tried to not get water on them. We had major flooding up here in International Falls this spring, so I never watered them...worried about rotting roots. They are alive, but the sickest thing in my yard. All other shrubs are fine.

selection of house windows

We plan to renovate an older resdidence and would like to know more about window quality. Wooden frame windows don't seem to be the way to go, and a reliable carpenter tells us that the "clad " windows seem to rot from the inside because of trapped moisture. We are thinking of vinyl or metal framed windows. How do the R values compare between triple and double paned, gas filled windows? Thank you very much. Bernie Uran

Dwarf Spruce lost needles

This dwarf spruce has lost needles each winter for the past 2 years. It is about 4-5 years old, 24" tall. It produces healthy looking new growth, but does not replace the bare sections. It is not protected in winter but is covered by snow. What is causing the needles to drop? Is there anything that can be done?

Hello, my raspberry patch has several problems going on right now. The leaves are getting eaten, I have found green worms with black heads, curled up gray leaves and something like spur blight..with the small new branches folding over in half. Some do have the dark purple ring through the stem. I also am going to send a soil sample in this week. A couple of years ago I took out all the lawn in my back yard and built a garden for which I had dirt brought in several times. The last batch of dirt brought in was very sandy and also it developed a green algae type color to it when it was wet. I will attach several photos of different issues, I can get more of any you might need. Last week I used a organic 3 in 1 called organicide. It seemed to work a little on the blight but I still have lots of bugs. Including what looks like a lady bug, but I think it had only one spot on each wing. I will have to send additional photos when you reply to me. I can't seem to load more than one at a time. Thanks for your help, again. Shelly
