Asparagus field weeding

Hello! I am looking for advice and information. I have an organic asparagus field just under an acre. My husband and I planted the crowns in 2015; this past spring we harvested about 165 delicious pounds from May 2 to June 1. My issue is weeds. We pretty much left the field alone the first 2 years. This spring we mowed down the field and marked the rows as the spears came up. During and especially after harvest I have been trying to eliminate the weeds, a difficult task to say the least. Currently, the field resembles a meadow approximately 3-5 feet tall (a beautiful variety of plant life, but not supposed to be there). I’ve cleared various areas by hand (leaving the ferning asparagus stalks, which are now drooping from height) because I have a hedgeclippers and time, but not necessarily the energy. My plan was to clear enough to distinguish the asparagus rows, mow down between rows with a push lawn mower, and then go through with a cultivating tractor. My question is, if I can get ahold of a field mower, is there still enough time in the season to mow the entire field down and have the asparagus come back and rejuvenate for next year? Do you have a better, more efficient idea? Any advice for this novice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Are these cherries edible?

We recently moved into a new house, and this tree pictured is in our yard. I assume it is a cherry tree? Any way to identify what kind of cherry tree it is? Are the cherries edible? We have 2 young girls, just want to be sure. Thanks!

Plant Identification

Good Morning, We have been asked to identify this plant that is in a soybean field in SE Minnesota (Houston County). It does not match any of the weeds we know and can identify. We think it may be an escaped ornamental because we have seen a very similar plant in a garden in Rochester. We would appreciate any ideas. It has an angular stem, but not quite square like a mint. The flowers are mint-like, leaves are alternate and there are some short hairs on the leaves and stems, not densely covered with hairs. Lisa Behnken, Extension Educator, UM Extension, Rochester

I have an Arbovitae hedge that is approximately 15 years old and the shreubs are about 20 feet tall. The exterior of the shrubs appear green and healthy and are heavy with seeds right now, but the interior of he hedge is very sparse and thin. The shrubs are planted at three foot intervals and now have grown into each other. I am wondering if the hedged needs to be thinned, (ie. removing say every other shrub to allow more sunlight to enter into the interior of th eplant) or if some other form of acre is needed.
