What is this stuff?

Overnight this has appeared 3 times in our mulch. We live in the woods and are visited by racoons and deer, etc. Is this feces of an animal, or a mold from the new mulch? It is yellow-gold, not brown and doesn't seem to have an odor. I shoveled it up and tossed it in the woods.

I have used the beautiful weather this fall to plant a new bed with perennial flowers and shrubs. The last plants were put in a week ago and my question is, how late in the season should I continue watering? Is there a weather benchmark that would dictate when to stop?

Naked river birch

I planted 2 river birch in my yard. 1 is lovely, other has no leaves at all after planting. Also, one I planted last year has only 1of 3 branches leafed. What am I doing wrong?

What happened to my barberry bush?

My gorgeous 4 year old barberry bush went from perfectly robust to perfectly dead looking in a matter of days. I could not detect any insects around it and all surrounding plants are still doing fine. Do you have any idea what happened here? I am attaching a photo of my barberry skeleton and the one remaining leaf still clinging to it. I thank you in advance for your time.

Deer eating hostas

Sure, we know deer eat hosta. However, would they dig around them and on them in the winter to eat the leaves?

Alpine Current Shrubs

I planted 6 alpine current shrubs about 6-10 years ago. They are on our property line. They are living and green but they have only reached about 2 feet in height max. I have some of the same shrubs on the other side of our property and they are growing tall each year and I prune them back. I am trying to figure out what is wrong with them and if I should just pull them out. The neighbor have two large black walnut trees in their yard. Could this be the problem? And what kind of shrubs can I plant there in place of them? We would like to have the shrubs for privacy between the two properties.
