How to apply side dressing in a garden with straw mulch

i am wanting to apply a side dressing to my tomato, pepper and squash plants within the next two weeks. It is a controlled release nitrogen product 12-6-6 . It recommends 2 tablespoons per square foot of soil I know i am supposed to keep it six inches from the plant. Do i rake back the mulch or apply it over the top of the mulch. the plants are watered using a drip irrigation system. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Peppers and tomatoes in containers

Hi! I am out of space in my garden to rotate my plants. So, I need to do a year in containers. What is the best soil mix for growing a healthy crop of peppers and tomatoes? I am going to do it all organically. Reid Anderson

Buckthorn treatment

I am using a product named ERASER, by Martins. The active ingredient is Glyphosate,N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine, 41%. This product has worked well using it full strength on buckthorn stumps. My question is this, with this product can I treat the stumps year around? My main concern is getting the chemical into the root system. When should I stop treating and when can I restart treatment if year around treatment is not recommended. Thanks for your help. RON

The roots on one side of the tree were severed when we dug the foundation for the cabin. I can not get my arms around the tree. I do not know what kind of tree it is. The foundation was dug on Sept 2. The soil will be replaced by the end of this week. Will the roots regenerate? The roots are not very thick. Some are shallow, most of them are uniform in thickness. Do I need to be concerned about the roots getting into the drainage tile? I have not counted all the roots. There a lots of them. Thank you

Planting native grass seed

I have "harvested" grass seed from some of my native plantings. How can I tell if the seed is mature? What would be the best time and way to plant it to accomplish maximum germination and growth? Now or wait for spring? Directly where I want it to grow? Or in a seed-sprouting medium? In the house or outside? I have mixed about 3 varieties together, is that a problem? I have prairie dropseed, and two other varieties whose names I can't remember.
