Raspberry plant protection from birds

I have problems with birds getting my raspberries before I can. Is there anything that can be placed to protect? Area is approximately 30' X 40' and is in an enclosed fenced in garden. Have a scarecrow out, have multiple 2-3 ft. plastic owl figures strung around area and have even strung thin line with torn plastic garbage bags on them across top of area (not much good though w/o a breeze). Would appreciate any help. Thanks. I have an edit to original question submitted: It is Becker County, not Blue Earth.

Raspberries

We have fall raspberries (which we mow down after frost). The first three weeks we had beautiful, large berries, but now they are small and many are not properly formed - small nubbins. Could it be from lack of fertilizer? If so, when and what should they be fertilized with? Also, is it true raspberries should not be planted near tomatoes or potatoes?

Planting after Clearing Buckthorn

We'd like to know what to plant underneath our cottonwood, wooded area after we clear Buckthorn to help with management and maybe, reestablishing native undergrowth.

We Have 4.5 Acres much of it is covered in cottonwood tree growing in competition, so they're tall, skinny, and relatively tightly packed. Underneath there is areas of thick Buckthorn and areas that are much less thick. We'd like to work on management, so we plan to start in the less thick areas and work our way towards the thick stuff. The area is slope toward the west and is shaded by the cottonwood trees.

We also have small section of prairie grass that is fairly clear, but we got to clear some spaces of dying trees and small amounts of buckthorn. What grasses should we plant? The grass that is already there is 2- 5 feet tall.

Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple

We received a fall fiesta sugar maple as a one year anniversary gift from my parents. We planted it late May of last year with a wide base, mulch and watered it regularly. The tree is in an open area on the farm, at least 40 feet from the closest tree. This year it got a few leaves, and now looks totally dead. Is there any hope? I'm just so sad that it doesn't look good...especially since it has sentimental value.

Deciduous shoreline tree

I'm looking to plant a native deciduous tree along a lake shoreline. The spot has full sun and is part of a grass lawn. Any recommendations for trees that would find that spot suitable would be well appreciated or any referral to a suitable resource for that answer. The hope would be for the tree to help maintain the bank from erosion and to be long lived and shady. Thank you!
