Help! New 1/2 inch and some 1" tall Asparagus spears look like something is boring holes in and some look chewed into just below emerging spear head and some on spear head that is causing death to spear or hooking. Is this a soil pest? No beetles or insects can be found. What can I do as this happened last season too?

Rose chafers

I am dealing with a biblical plague of rose chafers. So far, after 24 hours, I am still picking them off by hand into a jar with soapy water. They do seem to be significantly diminished, but that is because I have time to do this this week. They continue to fly in. I used Sevin on plants that I won't be consuming the leaves, but this leaves the kale, beets, arugula, lettuce, etc. vulnerable. Maybe I need to put up row covers? But no one in town has them for sale right now so I would have to DIY. Any other ideas to save more poor, young vegetable garden?

pine tree needle cast

Our 12' pine trees are loosing their needles about half the way up the tree with green scab on the branches with the lost needles. These trees are close to a lake. Is there a non-toxic treatment? Could it be a lack of soil moisture?

Asparagus Bed

I have a nice asparagus bed and I usually cut the stalks back every fall, but because of health reasons I did not. Now I am wondering if it is safe (before the frost goes out) to burn off those dried mature stalks. What do you think?

Orange grasshopper?

I found an orange grasshopper in my garden (see attached photo) and I could not identify it via the MN insect listings. Is this a new species or an invasive one? Sincerely, DeAnna Slevin deannakay_1@yahoo.com https://www.facebook.com/ RusticFroggie/
