Garden Amendments

We put aged sawdust on our garden this spring to help break up the clay soil. Put lime on prior to planting and have since added additional lime, 19-19-19 and urea but our crops are not happy. Corn is barely growing, tomatoes have achieved some height but are scraggly and peppers are just sitting. Any suggestions? This year appears to be a waste of effort produce wise but we will need to do something for next year. We plan on bring in a soil sample for testing or acquiring a soil testing kit.

Sauerkraut probiotic testing

I make home fermented sauerkraut. I want to find out the concentration of several beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus plantarum and acidophilus in my kraut. I have called my local extension office twice and UK's extension office twice to try to get the name of a testing lab and no one will even give me the courtesy of a return call. I am in the process of contacting private labs now. I thought this was the kind of help UK was supposed to provide.

Buttercup! How do I get the upper hand?

Buttercup is taking over my pasture & my peace of mind. I have read the most effective way of getting rid of it is to spray Feb. thru March using 24D. I have been spraying the last few weeks using a 33% solution of 24D, it is killing it, but is this a waste of time & money? Will I see it coming back in these areas next year?
