Raised Garden soil enhancement

I have two raised garden boxes that are 8ft x 16ft and 4ft x 16ft respectively. Both beds are about 18" deep. I have had them in place for a few years and it seems that the soil needs to be enhanced. Can you tell me the best way to do this over the winter so that I will have better luck with my spring garden? I have added organic material such as grass clippings and compost over the years but I guess I did it at the wrong time or did not apply enough.

sandbur control in bahia grass

I have a 5 acre property that is covered primarily with bahia grass. A couple of years ago I noticed sandburs in a few areas along the gravel/dirt road that runs the length of the property. I initially tried to control it by pulling the plants and keeping it mowed short to stop seed formation. Unfortunately, I was busy this past summer and couldn't keep it mowed. Now several areas are infested and of course they are full of mature burrs. I know it's too late to do anything this year, but what's the best way to get them under control next year? There isn't any livestock on the property, but there are lots of deer. Also, I need to mow those areas but I don't want to make the problem worse. (My mower doesn't have a bagging attachment). Any suggestions?

Horse Anatomy

We have just joined 4-H and are learning the outside anatomy of the horse for our 4-H project. In the 4-H literature the throat area is labeled the throat latch. I always thought the throat latch was part of the bridle, but that area of the horse is called the throat. Is throat latch correct? And I guess moving forward into any 4-H contest we should follow the labeling from what we are given to study to get a correct score, correct?

Beginner fall garden

We are complete beginners and would like to start a very small organic (preferably container or raised bed) garden this fall. We do not have full sun anywhere in our yard. We do have areas of partial sun. We also have wildlife in the area (rabbits and deer). We need maybe three crop ideas that won't be too difficult from which we might be able to get a 'win' that will encourage us to continue gardening. What would you suggest for our area, and when should we plant? Thank you so much for your help!

Add lime to break up clay before planting a new tree from sapling?

I have a very young Chinese Tallow that my mother grew from a seed which I'd like to plant in our 4 year old yard. Where I'm planting, I've got only a small layer of home builder's leveling soil before hitting clay. I was advised by a friend to add lime, but I wasn't advised how much, how, nor any other details.

I have a 50lb bag of "farm and garden" lime and a hole mostly dug. What's next? :)

The sapling is only about a foot tall over the 5 inch tall pot. Haven't checked out the rootball yet,
