New Gluten-Free Labeling

I've noticed that a very wide variety of products – from packaged food to produce to medicine – includes the phrase "Gluten Free" on the label. Is a new requirement from the FDA, or if companies are simply latching on to the current gluten-free trend?

The reason I feel that this is noteworthy is that many other common allergens or intolerances are not included in the same way on food labels. For instance, most medicines don't contain the statement "Shellfish Free" or "Tree Nut Free" on the label.
