Control of corn lily (Veratrum californicum)

Howdy!

I have some questions regarding the control of Veratrum californicum in a pasture situation. The ranch is located along the San Juan River near Pagosa Springs, CO in the San Juan Nat'l Forest (SW Colorado). Ten years ago the roughly 2000 acres of irrigated fields produced some of the best hay in the county (or so I'm told). Since then, years of overwatering and mismanagement have changed the plant community from desirable forage species to sedges, rushes, and other water-loving plants. The pastures are now used only for summer grazing. Corn lily (Veratrum californicum) has spread down into the pastures from nearby wet areas.
I am working to correct the overwatering issue, and know that changing the hydrology of the pastures will help it recover over time and return to more desirable forage community. However, my boss would like to see more immediate results.
In recent years, 2,4-D has been used to try and control the corn lily, sometimes also mixing in other products such as Horsepower. So far, only minimal control has been acheived (5-10% each year).

Is there a better choice of herbicides to control corn lily?
When is the best time to apply herbicides?
Would mechanical methods (mowing, disking, etc) help if used in conjunction with chemical means?
For reference, associated species in the pasture include, but are not limited to: Redtop (Agrostis gigantea) Reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) white clover (Trifolium repens) red clover (Trifolium pratense)
I can be reached by email, or by phone: 361-649-8561

Thank you!

Texas wildflower prep and where to get the best flowers

Hi, I have about 1/3 of an acre at the front of my yard that isn't covered by the sprinkler system. I would like to plow it up and plant seasonal wildflowers. I have white clay soil. What type of soil should I add.
I would like a variety of flowers, so that something is blooming year around. I thought about getting seeds from Lady bird Johnson's gardens.
Thank you for your time, Joan Matlock

Mulberry fruit trees

I have 6-7 acres in Montgomery County, USDA zone 8B. I have read contradictory statements on the web regarding white vs red vs black mulberries. My main desire for them is fresh snacking, with wine & jam making and animal feed as secondary uses. Which are the sweetest in my area? Also, which species are shorter & easier to harvest?

I want to identify a spider in my yard

This spider is large, about the size of a 50 cent piece, beige with black markings on its large stomach. It has made a circular web and is very good at catching flies and other insects that it seems to eat very quickly. I'm very curious to know about it. Thanks
